The Prodigal Troll
by Charles Coleman Finlay
(3 1/2 stars)
The story is your typical heroic fantasy story. Claye, a human infant and son of Lord Gruethrist, is lost while escaping during the seige of his father’s castle. He is rescued by a family of Trolls and raised as a Troll named Maggot. As with all heroic fantasy, the young man must go adventuring to find his destiny.
Its an interesting story with a little sword and sorcery, a little Tarzan, and a little Jungle Book mixed together to make “The Prodigal Troll”. I would have enjoyed the book better if it had had a stronger ending. But, I believe that Finlay sacrificed the ending of the book in order to develop this into a series. Still I think that its better than average … 3 1/2 stars.
I received this complimentary book from PYR for review purposes.
