Bigfoot ‘body’ on display in Phoenix area

Yes, this is part of the Rick Dyer Bigfoot body tour. Dyer has decided to avoid scientists and take his Bigfoot to the public for a price (*wink*).

Clacy told CBS 5 News he is negotiating with various Valley locations that would be interested in hosting the exhibit on Tuesday, February 11 and Wednesday, February 12. He said there would likely be a “very minimal” entrance fee of around $10 for adults and $5 for kids. A glass wall will separate the body from those who enter the trailer.

To quote P. T. Barnum, “There’s a sucker born every minute.”

For decades there have been persistent rumors, tales, and legends that government agencies all around the world have been secretly collecting and studying data on bizarre beasts, amazing animals, and strange creatures.

Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, sea serpents, psychic pets, the chupacabras, and the abominable snowman have all attracted official, classified interest.

Now, for the first time, the full, fearsome facts are finally revealed in Nick Redfern’s Monster Files.

You’ll discover all the amazing cryptozoological truths, conspiracies, and cover-ups behind the secret studies by the Pentagon, the Kremlin, and the British military, among many others.

Despite what your parents might have told you when you were a child, monsters, creepy creatures, and terrifying beasts really do exist. And our governments know all about them.

My thoughts:

I have never been disappointed with a Nick Redfern book and this one is his best thus far. First, the cover art is fantastic, it has this wonderful Indiana Jones vibe. Each chapter begins with a grunge page with a handwritten-like font that gives the book a field guide feel.  While there is a nice selection of interior art and pictures in the book, I would like to have seen some of them in color.

As you might expect from a Redfern book, there is a nice sized Bibliography which should make for a nice jumping off point for your own research. The book begins with Roosevelt’s Bigfoot story and travels through cryptid  stories until taunting us with a Megalania prisca. I have to say that I am pretty skeptical when it comes to some of the stories, but Redfern certainly knows how to lay out an interesting case.

Perfect for the paranormal geeks out there, I just happen to know a redhead who, if you were to whip this book out of the pocket of your cargo shorts, would swoon — swoon at the sight of this book. I enjoyed every minute of it and would give Monster Files: A Look Inside Government Secrets and Classified Documents on Bizarre Creatures and Extraordinary Animals 5 sea serpents out of 5.

Grinch, Krampus, and Bigfoot, know the difference

Last year, I had a little fun with the Grinch and Bigfoot. I suggested that they were the same creature.

This year seems to be the perfect time to re-examine the theory and include my favorite Christmas being the Krampus.

Let’s take a look at the ecology of the Grinch, Bigfoot/Yeti, and the Krampus. All three creatures have origins their origins in rural mountainous regions. The Grinch lives in an icy cave on a mountaintop, the Krampus hails from the Alpine regions, and the Yeti (Bigfoot) lives in icy mountainous areas (among other locations).

According to the Salish Syilx tribe of the Okanagan, their Bigfoot legends tell of stolen children who are consumed. Krampus also steals bad children during the Christmas season and licks (tastes?) them. The Grinch is only known to steal Christmas related items, perhaps a modified Krampus behavior?

The Krampus is depicted as having horns, but Bigfoot and the Grinch clearly do not have horns. However, the Grinch does have hair issues that can resemble horns to the untrained eye.

The Grinch is green while the Krampus has a brown or black color and a Bigfoot can have various colors according the Bigfoot expert Matt Moneymaker of “Finding Bigfoot” fame. Polar bears have been known to become green due to algae growth so it is not impossible that a Krampus or Bigfoot might assume that coloration.

With both horns and hooves, Krampus has obvious physical differences from the Bigfoot and Grinch. However, it might be argued that the Krampus has developed specialized parts for the Alpine climate. Of course, the physical descriptions of the Krampus may be in error.

While you are celebrating your Christmas holidays, and you see the Grinch, take a moment to ponder his relationship to the Krampus.

Merry Krampus, errr Christmas!

My thoughts on a geeky magazine

If you have followed my blog for any length of time, you know my weakness for steampunk and the paranormal. Of course, that weakness often manifests itself in an almost uncontrollable desire for geeky horror/sci fi movies. While I may mock them, I enjoy the gore, special effects, and occasional silliness of a low budget horror/sci fi movie. Long live Sharktopus!

I like to pick up a horror movie magazine and geek out for an afternoon. Nothing is better in life than to kill some time in a hospital waiting room with a horror magazine while fellow horror geeks envy you as you slowly flip through the pages. Although, the react of the non-horror geeks can be more entertaining. Ewwww.

Recently, I picked up a copy of “Rue Morgue” and enjoyed every gory moment of it. I even enjoy the ads! It’s an easy way to find that something special for the paranormal geek in your life. I found something for the Bigfoot fan …

You never know what you can find in a magazine! The website has tons of Bigfoot stuff from welcome mats to seltzer water …

Ghost Hunters S08E14: Camp Fear

In this episode, GH visits Camp Rutledge in Georgia and has  a house-call in Marion, North Carolina.  Once again, Jason starts with a monologue which seems to be the new template for the show. I liked it and I hope that GH keeps this new change.

The episode was titled “Camp Fear” and kicked off with an investigation of Camp Rutledge, Georgia. Personally, I’m of the opinion that if a vacation location creeps you out — don’t go back. Having said that, I enjoyed watching the team work and there were several laughs that reminded me of the early seasons of Ghost Hunters.

Steve’s bug-dance was priceless and watching the large bug crawl up Tango’s arm was vintage Ghost Hunters. On the downside, Britt’s experiment with wet footprints was all wet. If you don’t know what the humidity, heat, or airflow  was on the day of the sighting, how can you seriously determine evaporation rates? Are we to assume that only the kids feet were wet? Are we to assume it was even water *evil grin*?

The team captured some odd lights, they spot eyes, and collect an evp that may say, “Trust me.” The lights could have been anything from fireflies to Bigfoot hunters. Maybe Matt Moneymaker and Bobo were wandering about? I wondered why the team didn’t use the FLIR or did they and it was edited out of the show? Wouldn’t the FLIR have answered many of the questions of what was making noise and eye-shine in the woods? The segment made me think of several outdoor GHI investigations, and though I didn’t feel that it was a solid investigation, it had it’s entertaining moments.

I was happy to see a home investigation again. I remember a time when helping people made up the majority of GH’s investigations before they became so commercial and their investigations became infomercials for ghost tour locations. The team focused on a piece of furniture that was connected to a deceased member of the Leverette family. I wondered if the GH team would pull a Zaffis on the lady and remove the furniture, but the lady seemed happy that the haunting may be a relative. She was comforted by the thought that an evp allegedly said, “I don’t mean to scare Sophie”.

All in all, the show wasn’t too bad except for the post-production sound effects. What was once annoying is now making the show hard to hear. To the post-production people — less is more.

The howl of the skunk ape

Deep in the swamp near the heart of the glades,
a solitary figure prowls.
The razor grass cuts like blades,
and I know why the skunk ape howls.

The turtles snap, the snakes slither,
and the panther snarls and growls.
In the swamp, the timid souls will surely wither,
and I know why the skunk ape howls.

The gators feast on marshy carrion,
its unhappy banquet festers in reptilian bowls.
The skunk ape’s howl is it’s clarion,
and I know why the skunk ape howls.

It silently stalks the swamps, imperceptible to science,
but I know that the beast’s howl is a howl of defiance.

Is the Grinch and Bigfoot the same creature?

It doesn’t take a sharp eye to realize the oddly similar appearance of Bigfoot and the Grinch. Could they be the same creature? First allow me to remind you of what Bigfoot looks like:

By the way, you can pick up these cool Christmas cards at Zombie Housewives of the Apocalypse (link). Notice the clever Santa disguise.

Although slightly green, it is appears to be the same creature. Once again, notice the clever use of a Santa suit as camouflage.

Grinch — location: remote icy cave.
Yeti/Bigfoot — location: remote icy cave

Grinch — covered with fur
Bigfoot — covered with fur

Grinch — incredibly strong (lifts sleigh with toys)
Bigfoot — incredibly strong

Grinch — heart “two sizes too small”
Bigfoot — heart “unknown”

Grinch — big feet
Bigfoot — Duh

As for the green color, polar bears have been known to turn green due to algae growth. I think that it’s a pretty solid case for the Grinch being a Bigfoot with an algae problem. What are your thoughts?

Bigfoot sighting on Highway 101 – The Willits News

During the height of the smoke from Mendocino Lightning Complex fires, a Laytonville man had an encounter with an apelike creature while driving north of Willits on Highway 101 near Shimmins Ridge Road.

"This animal stepped onto the southbound lane near where the guardrail stops," says LoPinto. "It was very smoky and incredibly hot, at least 100 degrees but still daylight. It ran really fast, directly into the path of a small truck, which had pulled out to pass me, after the lanes had expanded from two lanes to four.

"The creature was completely black and looked all freaked out. I pointed at it so the other driver could see it and hit my brakes, hard. I didn't think I could stop in time and was sure I was going to hit it. Miraculously the passing truck missed the creature and sped out of sight.

"As the creature ran toward me, I saw it was least seven feet tall. The animal never slowed down as it ran on its hind legs like a man.

"I thought, 'it looks like a guy in a gorilla suit.' When it got to middle of the freeway, I could see it clearly. Its whole head was covered in black hair. I couldn't see any ears. As I was braking hard to make a panic stop the creature put its arms down and started running on four legs, bounding across the freeway. It had giant arms; they were very long and covered with fur.

"When my car fi
