I should start out by admitting my bias, I love Elvira. I love old schlock B horror movies and Halloween so it should come as no surprise that I love things associated with Elvira. In my youth, I had an Elvira poster and my girlfriend was so jealous of it that I had to take it down. I should have kept the poster and got rid of the girlfriend, but that’s another story.
Speaking of stories, Cassandra Peterson (Elvira) shares anecdotes from her life in a very conversational way. If you are a fan of Elvira, you’ve heard some of these stories before and other stories were fleshed out with bloody details that I wish that I hadn’t learned.
We all have our own scars. Let them be a blessing and not a curse.
As I said before, there were some details of her life that I wish that I hadn’t learned. One of the photos is of an underage Cassandra working at a Go Go Club that just crushed me. She looked so sad and uncertain. Her encounter with Tom Jones has made me look at Tom in a different light — he’s a dick. Don’t get me started about what she did in Europe.
All in all, it’s an excellent book and I’m glad that I have read it. It’s not for everyone but if you enjoy Elvira you’ll enjoy Yours Cruelly, Elvira: Memoirs of the Mistress of the Dark.
