My thoughts:

Belanger is a brilliant writer. Each location is covered with a well-written story of the ghostly legends. I guess my favorite would be Poveglia Island.

Many of you may remember the Ghost Adventures cast visiting Poveglia Island. Nick Groff related some of his thoughts about his visit and investigation of one the creepiest islands in the world. I was puzzled by Groff’s quote, ” …and we were all kind of shocked when he (Zak for those of you who didn’t see the episode) started yelling at Aaron.”   Who was the “we”? Was Nick saying that both he and Aaron were surprised or were there more people on the island who were surprised? Maybe Nick was using the “Royal We“? At any rate, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I do have a few minor bones to pick with Belanger’s latest effort. Some of the chapters read a little too much like his book “ENCYCLOPEDIA OF HAUNTED PLACES.” For example, Encyclopedia Of Haunted Places the RMS Queen Mary section reads “painted military gray and given the ominous name ‘The Gray Ghost’.” The World’s Most Haunted Places page 28 reads, “painted gray and given the ominous name ‘The Gray Ghost’.” It isn’t anything major, but I found a couple more like that which made me wonder if there was a glitch in the matrix.

To err is human; to forgive, divine —Alexander Pope

In his chapter ROSE HALL GREAT HOUSE, Belanger says, “Herbert G. De Lisser’s 1958 novel, The White Witch of Rose Hall“, but a quick google search will show Lisser’s book came out thirty years earlier. Typo? Shouldn’t someone have noticed an error like that? I touched base with Belanger and he let me know that the typo will be corrected in the reprint (I asked if I could post his response on my blog but he didn’t reply). I guess that I didn’t make Jeff’s day.

***UPDATE*** Belanger replied — his response was “ugh… you’re right. I’ll let the publisher know and get it fixed in the reprint.” Maybe it’s just me, but that ugh is priceless lol …

Aside from a few minor picky points, I enjoyed every minute of the book. I highly recommend it and give it 4 1/2 stars out of 5. I think that it is a must-have for your paranormal home library.
