( 4 1/2 stars out of 5 )

Z.A. Recht brings something new to the zombie mythos with his books, the fast “sprinters” zombies. The “sprinters” are the victims of the morningstar virus that are still living. I thought that it gave a nice spin on the usual zombie tales.

“Thunder and Ashes” is a fast-paced high-octane action story. This is the second book of the series, but I had no trouble jumping into the tale. I really enjoyed the military flair of the story, as an Air Force brat, the military jargon and equipment felt right. Most of the characters were full and rich, I suppose that the others will be zombie fodder.

I wont get into the plot points very much, but come on people it’s a zombie story. It was so good that I want to go back to the first book “Plague of the Dead” and read it.

Nice twist on the old zombie story, I give it 4 1/2 rotting corpses out of 5 !
