Veronica Mainwaring takes a job as secretary to an enigmatic man Justin Lucas. Lucas uses Veronica as a psychic tool to gain esoteric knowledge and power. Bound to Lucas by an invisible collar, Veronica struggles to understand what is happening to her. In the end, the power of love will triumph.

This book stands apart from the usual “bodice rippers” of Urban Fantasy or Paranormal Romance novels. In the first place, the author Dion Fortune understood the inner workings of the occult. In the second place, since the novel was written in 1927, it has the feel of that era. Some Americans might be put off with words like gaol and gaoler, but I thought that they only added to the feel of the story.

Aside from a very good occult thriller, “The Demon Lover” is riddled with occult references. I think anyone interested in esoteric themes will find this novel fascinating.

I won this novel as part of Weiser Books ThorsDay(#ThorsDayGiveaway) giveaway on twitter (@WeiserBooks ).

I give “The Demon Lover” 4 stars out of 5.
