I guess that there is no better time to review a book about our treatment of the earth than when an oil slick is drifting toward my home. I live in the panhandle area of Florida. I look on in horror as what was once called “the world’s most beautiful beaches” becomes polluted by an enormous oil spill.

In ‘Green Like God: Unlocking the Divine Plan for Our Planet’, Jonathan Merritt takes scriptures from the Bible to build a case for better stewardship of the earth. I guess the one of the best scriptures from the Bible sums it up for all of us. Matthew 22:39 …”And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'” I have never made the connection with this scipture and the environment until now.

One of the best parts of the book is the “Guidelines of a Greener Life.” There are so many green tips from simply turning of the power to simpler living to recycling. All in all, it is an awesome book that comes to us at an important time.
