Chocolate Mayonnaise Cake Recipe

18 Jan

In honor of Josh “The Food Nazi” Gates who hurled lowly and immature insults at an elderly lady, Paula Deen, after she announced that she has diabetes. A man brave enough to step forward and insult a woman personally rather than criticize her recipes deserves a cake. Not just any cake mind you, but a nice Chocolate Mayonnaise Cake!

I remember my Aunt making this cake. She didn’t drive and on short notice she might not have enough eggs or oil.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Sift together your dry ingredients flour, cocoa, soda and salt. Cream your wet ingredients together the sugar, mayonnaise, water and vanilla. Stir the dry and wet ingredients together until thoroughly blended. Pour the cake batter into greased pans and bake at 350°F for about 25 minutes. Give it the toothpick test — enjoy.

It’s a very old recipe and it should bring back memories to those of you with roots in the rural south. I’d also recommend a milder mayo like Hellmann’s®.

While this recipe may not satisfy a snobbish elitist food nazi like Josh Gates, Anthony Bourdain, and their ilk, I would suggest giving it a try. I’m not sure that I can say the same for Destination Truth‘s season 5.

Use Greek Yogurt in place of the Mayo and I think you have a winner! :-)

Yep, I agree with Autumnforest, use Greek yogurt, yum! What’s with the hate-on for Josh?

I lost respect for Josh after he said, “She (Paula Deen) is, in short, the Dr. Moreau of the culinary world; a soccer-mom Frankenstein with more than a passing resemblance to Ursula from The Little Mermaid.”

If you have a problem with her food comment on her food, but don’t call an elderly lady names. He crossed the line and owes her an apology.

Jeez, I wonder what his beef is with Paula? I think that comment was a bit much and he does owe her an apology.
