Ghost Hunters – “Roller Ghoster”

13 Jan

I couldn’t get that song Roller Coaster of Love out of my mind — thanks a lot GH.

GH kicked off its eighth season with good ratings pulling in 2.029 million viewers. I got a chuckle when the GH cast reaffirmed their commitment to helping people, but started the season with a 30 minute infomercial for Kings Island Theme Park.

Gone are the days when the The Partridge Family and The Brady Bunch visited King’s Island. I guess the visit by the Ghost Hunters ties into a larger haunted theme for the park. Its things like this that makes you roll your eyes when a pair of multimillionaires tell you that they ghost hunt to help people. Having said that, Bonaduce is a spooky dude.

Maybe its the skeptic in me, but I was not surprised when the GH team recorded one of the clearest EVPs that I have ever heard. Would they hoax a child’s voice? One needs only to look up Grant’s collargate. While I was entertained on a certain level by the King’s Island segment, I was very uncomfortable watching the segment with the house in New Hampshire.

I guess this is how Jason and Grant help people, by leaving them as emotional wrecks. With the aid of some blinking flashlights (I’m not a fan of the flashlight trick), GH determined that ghosts were trapped at that location. Any blinking seemed to do the job as long as it fit their narrative. At one point, a light blinked before Amy finished her question and Amy said, ”Okay, I’ll take that as a yes.” I was really uncomfortable with the ladies’ reaction during the review based on little more than GH’s interpretation of blinking flashlights. I don’t know where the line is with this sort of thing, but GH may have crossed it.

The flashlight trick was hilarious. Whoever was really operating the on/off function was very out of sync with the questions. If this isn’t proof that it’s a trick, I don’t what is. Should have re-shot that segment but maybe they’re getting a bit too lazy.

I also don’t get asking a girl that died in the 1840s whether she wants to ride modern amusement park rides. How would she know what they are????

The evp was TOO clear. Would love if others could analyse it, but with GH, that’s not allowed.

Only those still drinking the Kool Aide (or Flavor Aide) would buy into this evidence.

Sharon H, so what to you would be a credible evp based on? Clarity or lack thereof? According to the experts of those who have passed on it takes a tremendous amount of the dead’s energy to communicate by turning on flashlights, moving chairs or leaving verbal messages. Sometimes evps are to me nothing but RF static but others hear in them disctinct messages and sometimes they sound as clear as the person sitting next to me. How do you determine what is a credible evp and what isn’t? And as far as determining how quick a question should be answered by turning on or off a flashlight what do you deem to be the reaction times of the dead should be?

I like in this episode you reviewed that this is the umpteenth time they have “walked” from people who are terrorized by the dead or left the “lost spirits” to languish in limbo all the time explaining how they have helped both the living and the dead. You would not want their kind of help if you were drowning as I would expect them to toss you an anchor.

I really enjoyed the location of the investigation. I would love to find some abandoned amusement parks to ghost hunt at and take pictures of.

The kinds of things GH does to help people are actually more likely to stir things up, while they go merrily on their way to the next product placement gig.

Actually, I have heard a few EVPs that were that clear. Almost any proof that a team gets is open to speulation that it has been faked. It really comes down to the credibility of the team. GH puts their reputation on the line every time they put something on TV. To some people, there’s not much risk of changing their opinion about GH.

If you’re ever in northwestern Illinois, I’ll take you along on one of the Small Town Ghosts team investigations. We are totally committed to helping the ghosts we find to cross over to the other side. I’ve had investigations that lasted for years and twenty visits, because it took that much time to establish sufficient trust for the ghost to accept an intervention.
